We created an interactive translation experience that makes the centuries-old tradition of omikuji accessible to international visitors.

After receiving their paper fortune at the shrine, visitors can use their phone to discover its meaning in one of seven languages — turning something they might otherwise struggle to understand into an engaging part of their visit.

The experience preserves the ritual of receiving a traditional paper omikuji while adding a simple digital layer that helps visitors understand their fortune, advice and what fate has in store for them.
